When Dogs Run Free That phrase conjures a lot of different feelings. Either the dogcatcher comes and charges "an arm and a leg" after your pet is imprisoned, or kills it because there is some foul up in the papaerwork; or the animal gets to feel that running is their nature...which it is! The neighbors who do not have dogs, but probably let their cats run free all the time (like cats don't shit and ar not aggressive), are the first to call in a complaint. People with dogs generally love them, and this even usually extends to odgs of other people persuasions, let them run (they have a fence up where it might be problematic). Anyway, I am playing fetch with Sarah, a German Pointer. She loves playing fetch. She would rather fetch than eat. I go through a dozen tennis balls a year; worn out, never lost. The dog is like a black and white hound...can find a ball anywhere. It occured to me that this must be appealing to a basic nature bred into this animal. Most know that all dogs are related to wolves, but the variety now is astounding. I am throwing the ball, Sarah is fetching it and returning for me to again throw. Over and over and over. I am thinking this is kinda weird. What ever does she derive of such great pleasure from this simple exersize?
