Election Day has come at last. So much is being said about getting out the vote. Dr. Joe Burns, whom I am building a serious respect for, asks in his weekly newsletter, why we do not vote over the Internet. Some day, but not for awhile. There are still too many tweaks and issues to be resolved and implemented. All the way up to a commonness that would allow such a sacred right to use without thought of corruption creeping in and manifesting paranoia. It is, after all, how our country is to be governed, isn't it? Actually, no. It is a third of that; the other two thirds being formulated through a balance of power we call the checks and balances. This election is about two-thirds of the system; with "the third third" about to be balanced; by either coat-tail, corruption or conscience. The personalities are incredible in their lack of scale: none has either personality or experience on a par with the demands of the job. Rather than the "best of bad" choices, we face the consequences of fearfulness emitting from shortcomings. Gone is the true national hero, who we worship out of the images and emotions that formulate our national pride. The success of success that grew out of the Last Great War (WWII), coming manifest to this time, has wrought a new generation of media fed two-dimensional character. But, who it is remains beneath that image of America born of the Cold War struggle and its rhetorical promises. Beyond the personalities and the potential implication, the actuality is that the Hippie in the mix is the Republican and the square is Democratic. The major party candidates are both sons of fathers whom have held national office; that alone a default entity that is a chicken that will come to roost. The other choices are no choice at all. However it goes, it will be historic and contribute significantly to the environment in which the next generation will struggle. It seems insignificant to me; having seen the worst possible outcome with Nixon and Regan and somehow survived.
